XTERRA Canada is back on my schedule!

They have had some problems finding sponsors but in the last minute it was all taken care of. I loved the venue and the Canmore Nordic Center is oen of the msot beautiful places I have raced so far. It was a cold morning for all of us with freezing rain and snow falling at higher elevations. The water was cristal clear but REALLY cold- my feet were numb and took a few minutes to thaw them out.. The bike course was very technical at least to my skills. The run course was windy and challenging, just like the way I like it! I will definitely register before the end of March to get the discount. Results from last year: XTERRA Canada Championships

2013 Racing Calendar

OK, here we go.. I just revised my 2013 calendar with the most up-to-date plans I have at this moment. This doesn't mean it's all set in stone yet but this comes very close what's going to happen. Key events are the ITU Cross Triathlon Worlds in the Netherlands where I will represent the USA ... or Hungary??? Other important races include the ETU European Cross Triathlon Championships in Austria, the USA XTERRA Championships in Ogden, Utah and the XTERRA World Championships on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Of course, all of the events listed are important and I never just show up.. Local events have their own meanings to promote and help the increase the popularity of triathlons and maintaining a healthy life-style through exercise.

2013 Races around the World

Hello ya'll! Below you will see a map where I inserted all the races I'll plan on doing this year. There might be others, bigger, smaller events added as they come. Latest news is that I was invited to compete at the USAT Age Group Triathlon Nationals in Milwaukee. Then my wife reminded me how she wanted to go hiking in the Banff National Park in Alberta in the beginning of August.. So I might just have to opt out from that race as I haven't figured out how to slash myself in two without creating permanent damages to my body..

January Report

Hi all,

Everything is going good on this end. I started my 2013 on a high note with work-related workouts and triathlon specific workouts all mixed together. I instruct the bootcamp classes as well as regular fitness classes, spin classes at United Tribes. That accounts for 9 workouts already in a week. When I add swimming workouts, running and at-home cycling sessions I'm already up to at least 16 workouts every week. That's probably more than what Average Joe or Jane does. With the winter on top of us at least my mind settles easier with the fact that I cannot bike outside as much as I would have to. I still ride more than any other year as I was barely moving a year ago due to my knee injury and I really just started triathlons not even 2 years ago.
So it's all going in the right direction. With all this training I'm super excited to see what this new season will bring in terms of better swimming times, stronger bike legs and a much stronger body in general. I'm confident to say that I will bring home more trophiesm shinier and more valuable awards. I also hope to have more dedicated supporters stand behind me and think of my successes in racing in Bismarck, North Dakota as an investment to show people that even here you can become one the best in outdoor endurance sports. I have goals no less, than competing at the highest level I can, to continue advocating health, fitness and all the benefits of regular exercise and to introduce triathlon to all ages in our community and help build the champions of the future.
Those were some deep thoughts so read on and cheer up!
At last let me show you one of my falls from last year that was recorder in Snowbasin, Utah during the XTERRA USA Championships. Note: I competed with bruised ribs as I had another accident weeks before this race so thos fall definitely didn't help me in this race.. :)

TEAM USA!

The USAT just sent me an email in which they invite me to represent USA at the 2013 ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships in Den Haag or The Hague on July 13.
I think it's simply the best news I have received for a long time! It's better, it's an honor to represent this country, my new country.

Thanks!

2012 Turkey Trot winner. Again x3!

When I woke on Thursday morning I was probably more anxious than ever. I had only one thing in my mind, to win the annual CFA Turkey Trot for the third year in a row!
With all this pressure we drove out to the Elk Lodge to pick up the bib number.
The weather wasn't too bad. 32 degrees (just like last year) with 20-25mph wind from NW.
The past two years I had people who'd push me through at least the first half of the race and I hoped that it would be the same this year as well. After the 1k I was alone and I had a gut feeling that it would stay like that for the entire race. On the way out the wind was not in favor. Sometimes I felt I was blown back. I still managed to turn in 17:35ish. The wind helped us running back towards the park. I picked up the pace and ran almost the entire second half in  sub-5:20 pace. I managed to swerve through almost the entire 5k field. Joggers, walkers, people running in groups for fun while I was racing my heart out. I wonder what they might have thought when they heard than saw me running by while wheezing so loud.
All in all I finished in 34:17 (16:40 2nd half)- based on my watch but because I stopped before the second mat my official time is only 34:22. Oh well.
I have muscle soreness even now, days after the race.
